Why Start Learning Investing at 12 Years Old?
Compounding rewards time, not money.
A child who learns this at 12 has a 40-year head start on a child who learns it in college.
Habits set early.
Financial - and life - instincts learned young, such as patience, skepticism of get-rich-quick-schemes, and saving, will prove helpful throughout life.
Financial skills are not taught often enough.
Fewer than half of US states require financial literacy to graduate high school, despite investment literacy being invaluable towards a healthy financial life.
About Young Investors Workshop
Your 12-year-old can name every video game currency but has never heard of an ETF. That's not their fault; it's ours, collectively. New York City public schools don't currently put nearly enough emphasis on practical financial life skills. Most don't teach what a 401(k) is, why credit card debt compounds against you, or how to read a stock.
Young Investors Workshop fills that gap. We run live, small-group online workshops that teach kids ages 12-15 the real fundamentals of money and investing. Students will leave able to read a stock, explain diversification, talk about risk, and be prepared to avoid the mistakes many adults are still making in their 40s.
